# Hunter x Hunter Volume 39 Set for July 3 Release — First New Manga Volume in Two Years
**Hunter x Hunter** is returning to bookshelves. Shueisha officially announced on June 1 that **Volume 39** of Yoshihiro Togashi's legendary adventure manga will release on **July 3** — the first new collected volume in approximately two years.
The upcoming edition clocks in at **208 pages** and is priced at **572 yen**. It follows Volume 38, which hit shelves on September 4, 2024.
## Hunter x Hunter Returns With Volume 39
Created by **Yoshihiro Togashi**, *Hunter x Hunter* has been serialized in *Weekly Shonen Jump* since 1998. The manga follows young protagonist **Gon Freecss** as he sets out on a dangerous journey alongside friends like **Killua Zoldyck**, navigating a world of Hunters, Nen abilities, and ever-escalating stakes.
The story is currently set aboard a massive vessel bound for the **Dark Continent** — an unexplored landmass beyond the known world. Aboard the ship, various factions collide: **Kurapika** continues his mission to recover the Scarlet Eyes, members of the **Phantom Troupe** pursue their own agendas, and the Kakin royal family's brutal **Succession Contest** rages on behind closed doors.
The manga series has surpassed **84 million copies** in circulation worldwide, including digital editions.
## A History of Hiatuses
The road to Volume 39 has been anything but smooth. Weekly serialization originally paused after **Chapter 400**, published in the December 26, 2022 issue of *Weekly Shonen Jump*.
The series later resumed with **Chapter 401** in the October 7, 2024 issue, returning to a weekly schedule. However, the reprieve was short-lived — Shueisha announced on December 9 that the manga would once again go on hiatus starting with the January 2025 third issue of *Weekly Shonen Jump*, released on December 16.
A total of **410 chapters** have been published in the magazine so far.
Despite the frequent breaks, Togashi's return to print with Volume 39 is a reminder that the Dark Continent saga is far from over — and fans remain as patient and devoted as ever.
