Manga News Roundup: Animal Signal Debuts, Billy Bat English Release, Space Brothers Ends & More
June is shaping up to be a landmark month for manga. From major new serializations to the emotional finale of a beloved long-runner, here's what's happening on the page.
Animal Signal — New Weekly Shonen Jump Series by Taishi Tsutsui
Weekly Shonen Jump is welcoming a new series to its lineup: Animal Signal, featuring art by Taishi Tsutsui, the creator behind the hit rom-com We Never Learn: BOKUBEN.
The series is one of three new titles launching in Jump throughout June, following the recent cancellation of Alien Headbutt. Tsutsui's return to Jump marks his first full serialization in six years, and fans of his clean, expressive art style have reason to be excited. Details on the story premise are still emerging, but the BOKUBEN pedigree alone has put this debut on everyone's radar.
Billy Bat Finally Gets an English Release
One of the manga community's longest-standing wishes has been granted: Naoki Urasawa's acclaimed thriller Billy Bat has officially begun its English-language release.
Volume 1 is now available through Abrams ComicArts' Kana imprint. Billy Bat is a sprawling, genre-defying mystery that spans centuries and continents, weaving together conspiracy, history, and Urasawa's signature psychological tension. For fans of Monster and 20th Century Boys, this is essential reading — and the fact that it's finally accessible in English is a milestone moment.
Space Brothers Publishes Its Final Volume — June 11
After years of following the Nanba brothers' journey to the stars, Space Brothers by Chuya Koyama will publish its final volume on June 11, 2026.
The beloved series, which began serialization in 2007 in Morning magazine, tells the story of Mutta Nanba and his quest to follow his younger brother Hibito into space. It's a story about dreams, persistence, and the quiet heroism of never giving up — and its conclusion marks the end of one of the most consistently heartfelt manga of the modern era.
Gokurakugai Goes on Unexpected Hiatus
In less cheerful news, the series Gokurakugai has entered an unexpected hiatus. The next chapter is now not expected until early July 2026. No specific reason has been given for the break, but the series' fanbase is hoping for a swift return.
